12 Small Ottomans under $150 to Elevate any Room

Ottomans and small stools have quickly become one of my favorite ways to add texture, visual interest, extra seating, storage, and a place to kick up my feet at the end of the day.

When thoughtfully adding pieces to a smaller space, it’s vital that they can perform lots of functions without sacrificing style.

Ottomans and footstools are the workhorses every small space needs.

They’re perfect elements to create a more curated feel, add a new color, or even serve as a layered piece with books, a tray, or a blanket.

When to Use an Ottoman vs. a Small Stool

Technically, ottomans are pieces of furniture that sit low to the ground, don’t have backs or arms, and may or may not provide extra storage.

They also may have a matching counterpart in a chair or sectional.

Footstools also fall into this very broad definition, but I consider footstools to be smaller in scale and often do not have a matching counterpart.

Either way, there’s a time and place for both.

Ottomans

An ottoman would be a great alternative to a coffee table, for instance. Softer fabrics and textures would be great for more casual environments or families with small kids. (Round ottomans mean no sharp edges!)

If storage is at a premium, consider getting an ottoman, or bench, with a lid and deep storage space within.

Ottomans can serve as extra seating in the living room, but don’t limit them to just that space!

Ottomans would work well in larger closets, offices, reading nooks, large bathrooms, or oversized accents in a space.

Footstools

If you’ve got a cozy (aka small) living room, there might not be room for a recliner or large sectional.

Enter the footstool.

These little gems are usually light enough to move around with ease and increase the functionality of pieces like accent chairs and small sofas.

We keep our little boucle footstool in front of the window most of the time so our dog, Polly, can sit there and look out the window. Fun for the whole fam!

When Polly’s not using it, I’ll grab it and use it to kick my feet up when I’m sitting on the couch since ours doesn’t recline or have a place for your feet.

If you want to increase the functionality of your small space, or add a little texture or color, an ottoman or footstool can help do just the thing.
