RAINS Fishtail Parka: A Review
Admittedly, I’m in a bit of a style rut. (Proceed with caution.)
HOWEVER, I do think a good trench coat belongs in most wardrobes. But, the problem with lots of trench coats is that they aren’t waterproof and don’t have hoods.
I’ve found a raincoat (finally!) that combines the effortless feel of a trench, with the practicality of a raincoat. Enter – the RAINS Fishtail Parka.
Before I get into my thoughts about this coat, let’s go over the details.

Sizing
I find this coat to be a smidge oversized, but I took my normal size “small.” It’s technically a unisex raincoat, so the tailoring feels casual, wearable, and not overly feminine. I was able to wear a thin sweater underneath, but I wouldn’t be able to do a thick or chunky cable knit sweater.
fabric details
You know how some raincoats feel like you’re wearing a rubber suit and smell like a tire? This one isn’t like that at all.
The fabric is RAINS’ signature PU (100% polyester with polyurethane coating) has an incredibly soft feel and is miraculously lightweight.
I’m wearing the color “sand” in these photos – it reminds me of a true khaki.
Because of its unique coating, this jacket protects from rain and wind chill while allowing for easy movement.
RAINS Fishtail Parka Review
I’m writing this from the perspective of a gal who lives in a climate where the winters are mild(ish) and rainstorms often don’t last more than an hour or two.
This raincoat is absolutely perfect for what I need!
The length hits me about mid-calf which I love and keeps the majority of my body dry when out and about. This waterproof parka has a casual fit and minimalist vibe which is what I was looking for.
If you’re in the market for a coat with a little more shape, this one called the String W Parka has a drawstring waist for easy cinching.
The hood is a little floppy and feels a bit big, but after a little readjusting and tightening the drawstring, it’s not a dealbreaker.
Pros
- lightweight and easy to pack/wear
- love the fishtail hem – adds a bit of visual interest
- minimal design/elegant drape
- soft feel
- doesn’t sacrifice style for function
- so many good, neutral colors to choose from
- machine washable
- under $200
- easy to style with any wardrobe
Cons
- only rated for light rain – not sure this would be great for very cold or very wet conditions
- the hood is a little cumbersome
- wish that the oversized fit allowed for thicker sweaters – but not a dealbreaker and not always necessary
I can’t wait to wear this raincoat as a light jacket in the spring with a sweater draped over my shoulders. And I find myself wanting rain to fall just so I can wear it.
