3 Ideas I’m Stealing for My Small Outdoor Space

Just because my patio is the size of a large pastry, doesn’t mean it can’t give luxury hotel patio vibes. And by golly, that’s exactly what we’re going for.

Since the nights are getting warmer, I’m itching to get started on a cute little small patio makeover.

Living in a small space is a natural force for creativity.

How do I make a tiny outdoor space feel charming, expensive, and luxurious without spending a ton of money or renovating (lol I wish)?

Because we’re working with such limited space, my main focus is optimizing what currently exists with elements that are minimal, chic, and easy to recreate.

Here are the small patio decorating ideas I’m stealing for spring and summer.

Monochromatic Color Scheme

There’s something about sticking to a specific color palette that screams sophistication. I love how this small outdoor area feels cohesive and tonal. I mean the Central Park views certainly help, but the greys, greens, and pops of black feel thoughtful and celebrate the architecture of the patio. The patio furniture is minimal so as not to overwhelm floor space.

Delicate Details

I’m a sucker for dainty details like fringe, subtle stripes, and textures. Outdoor throw pillows and patio umbrellas are a great way to incorporate subtle nods to the season and bring in a little personality. I also love how a fringed umbrella, for example, can serve as the outdoor area focal point.

Mood Lighting

Lighting can make or break any room. But I’m convinced that to create an outdoor oasis, you HAVE to incorporate decorative elements like string lights. Currently, we have one strand of string lights hanging, but I love these firework LED lights for the bushes and raised bed. Ambient lights set the tone for a cozy evening and can make any space, no matter the size, feel intimate.

I’m almost done with our patio makeover, but in the meantime, you can shop what I’m using to make our space the perfect little summer oasis!
